Quite simply one of the finest resorts to be found anywhere in the Indian Ocean, Le Touessrok is a hotel that has achieved the perfect balance between contemporary chic and authentic island style.
Le Touessrok lies on the east coast of Mauritius and is set on a secluded pristine beach with stunning views of the Indian Ocean and linked by wooden bridge to its own picture perfect little island called Frangipani Island. Further out across the stunning turquoise lagoon lies a series of picture perfect islands reached by short boat trip from the resort – these include the gorgeous Ile aux Cerfs with its Bernard Langer designed championship golf course and superb beaches as well as the barefoot island retreat of Ilot Mangenie to which the resort has exclusive access. Whilst the location is spectacular, the resort itself is no less impressive with its white walled exteriors, thatched roofs and landscaped gardens maintaining a distinctive tropical look and Creole charm.
The rooms themselves feature cool and contemporary design and décor with splashes of bright colour to enliven things. There are 200 of them of various types located either on the mainland (spread between the Hibiscus and Coral wings) or across the bridge on Frangipani island and the resort prides itself that all rooms have a sea view. Frankly you can’t really go wrong whichever room type you go for but, as always, more money buys you more space and luxury. The 68 entry level Deluxe Rooms are all on the mainland and are spacious (at 54 m²) elegant and contemporary. If you can stretch though, the Junior Suites (65 m²) are a worthwhile step up – interestingly the 92 Junior Suites on Frangipani island are more modern and contemporary whilst there are also 31 in the Hibiscus wing back on the mainland which are more classically styled. If you’re looking for more space then there are 6 Ocean Suites (126 m²) which add a separate lounge and private dining area. In keeping with the family friendly nature of Le Touessrok, all of these rooms are able to accommodate kids – but if you’re a bigger family (with big money!) then the 3 luxurious 3 bedroomed Villas (423 m²) with their private pools and butler service would be absolutely perfect!
Having gorgeous rooms is one thing, but a great resort also needs to deliver on the service front – and here Le Touessrok certainly lives up to its membership of “The Leading Hotels of the World†group. At Le Touessrok, the number one priority is truly always the guest - from the moment you arrive, whatever you do, wherever you dine and wherever you choose to go, the service is friendly and impeccable, but never intrusive. Lie back and enjoy a beachside pampering with cool towels and the indulgence of having your sunglasses polished, before deciding which one of the hotel's restaurants to dine at.
Even the main restaurant here, Three-Nine-Eight, is something very different and a cut above the norm. The concept is encapsulated in the name: spread over three different floors, the cuisines of nine countries - Mauritian, Indian, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Spanish, Italian and French – are prepared in eight spectacular open show kitchens where you can see your meal being prepared. For something more intimate, guests can opt for delicious Indian dishes in the elegant Safran; then there’s the Asian inspired Barlen’s located by the resort’s beach whilst for something more casual head across to Crusoe's Restaurant & Robinson's Bar located on resort's romantic 'desert island' of Ilot Mangénie, where you can enjoy delicious just-out-of-the-sea fresh fish with your toes in the sand under the trees lining the beach. If you fancy hanging out around the gorgeous main pool back at the resort, light lunches are on offer at the Sega Bar along with your choice of liquid refreshments – perhaps sample one of Le Touessrok’s own home made rums – whilst after dinner you can chill here listening to the resort’s classy jazz band as you plan what you fancy doing the next day.
There’s certainly plenty to choose from! Go scuba diving around coral reefs, take out the glass-bottomed boat, or play a game of night tennis on the floodlit court. Le Touessrok's water sports centre and boathouse are actually on Ile aux Cerfs, a 10-minute boat ride away across the turquoise lagoon (a big plus point in that it retains a sense of tranquillity around the resort itself) and here guests can revel in a huge range of complimentary activities including unlimited water-skiing and windsurfing, kayaking, laser sailing dinghies, pedal boats and snorkelling. If you’re feeling a bit parched or peckish whilst you’re on Ile aux Cerfs, the good news is that you don’t have to schlep back to the resort – instead just grab a pizza or burger and coke at the casual Paul & Virginie restaurant or the Sands Bar. On Ile aux Cerfs you’ll also find a stunning championship golf course designed by Bernhard Langer – the longest course on the island, the view of the sea and mountain backdrop on every hole will take your breath away! And if all that exercise gets too much, spa fans can revel in the designer-style treatments at the hotel's gorgeous Givenchy Spa, one of the world’s premier cosmetics houses. After all, a truly world class resort deserves a world class Spa!
