There are just a handful of resorts on the Le Morne peninsular, arguably the most stunning location on the entire island. The competition here is tough too, with neighbouring hotels including Beachcomber’s excellent duo of Dinarobin and Paradis – so it says a lot for LUX* Le Morne quality that it doesn’t have to take a backward step to these formidable competitors. It’s quite a bit smaller than a lot of its competitors too (which many customers will prefer) – there are 149 rooms here set back in beautiful lush gardens overlooking the turquoise waters of the lagoon. But whilst it’s a more manageable size than some of the more sprawling competition, the LUX* Le Morne doesn’t lack anything when it comes to facilities, as evidenced by its 4 restaurants and 2 bars and 4 gorgeous swimming pools to go along with the heavenly beach. And rather than the more common thatched roofs seen at so many resorts on the island, the architecture at the LUX* Le Morne exhibits a distinctive and very attractive Bali-style influence.

The 149 rooms all feature a similar look and feel with calming shades of tan combining with classy dark wood furniture and large black and white images of the island to create a sophisticated and understated ambience that’s pure elegance. They rooms are definitely not as large and spacious as some of their competitors on the island though, which may in fact impact more on their suitability to accommodate families as opposed to couples. The entry level rooms are the 64 Superiors (45 m²) – 32 of them on the ground floor and the other half on the first floor and all with nicely furnished terraces or balconies facing the sea. Perhaps the most popular room type, particularly for honeymooners (and hence quite difficult to get availability) are the 15 Deluxe Rooms (46 m²) which are situated on the top floor with no other room beside them and so are more private – the real clincher here though is that they boast gorgeous hot tubs looking out over the lagoon! Then there are 10 Junior Suites (52 m²) with mini bars concealed within a rosewood cabinet, linen pillows, iPod sound docks, and bamboo trimmings all working together to create a look of authentic elegance which has become the signature style of the LUX* Le Morne. For a real treat, have a look at the 15 Ocean Junior Suites (57 m²) all on the ground floor and lying closest to the water’s edge and featuring a patio with daybed armchairs as well as double sun loungers. A special feature are the louvered blinds between the bathroom and the bedroom which allows guests to enjoy a view on the beach and the lagoon from their bath if they choose. Finally there are the resort’s largest rooms, the 45 Junior Prestige Suites (63 m²) all of which are on the ground floor and boast an outdoor shower (which is so often a favourite for guests!)

Whilst the powder sand beach here provides a natural playground par excellence, the LUX* Le Morne is certainly not lacking when it comes to other facilities! For a start there are 4 swimming pools, the main one also including a special section for kids. Then there’s the usual extensive range of watersports, with complimentary water-skiing, windsurfing, pedal boats, kayaks, sailing, snorkelling and glass-bottom boat trips – scuba diving and deep sea fishing are also available at extra cost. Back on land, the LUX* Le Morne lacks the golf course of its Beachcomber neighbours and apart from tennis it’s an altogether more tranquil affair with things like yoga, Tai Chi and meditation on the menu. Whilst we would probably regard the LUX* Le Morne as being best suited to couples, there is still an excellent kid’s club and there’s even a teen’s club that operates during school holidays that should give your sulky offspring something to smile about at last! If you’re in need of a bit of pampering yourself, then head for the stunning Nymphea Spa – with its 8 treatment villas, each with a private garden overlooking the spa pool, and its soothing water features, this is the perfect place to indulge in some unapologetic “me time.”

The LUX* Le Morne offers plenty of choice to guests when it comes to food and drink with a selection of 4 restaurants and 2 bars. The Horizon Restaurant is the main restaurant open for buffet breakfast and dinners with some theme buffets and some a la carte dinners. For a taste of typical Mediterranean flavours, head instead to Obergine in a relaxed open air environment next to the beach. Then on a large deck overlooking the beach you’ll find Nautile where you can enjoy typical Mauritian cuisine or a snack - most nights, the Nautile transforms into cocktail bar where you can chill out whilst listening to the music over a long, cold drink. Pride of place must go however to Nipa, the very intimate (just 40 seats) Thai restaurant where you can enjoy a romantic dinner along with a stunning view over the lagoon. A variety of soft jazz, piano bar and dancing entertainment is on offer creating a lovely classy ambience perfect for romance, with shows being held twice a week. Whilst Half Board (breakfast and dinner) is the standard meal basis, the LUX* Le Morne is also fairly unusual at this premium level of resorts in also offering an All Inclusive package - yet another reason why it has become one of the most popular resorts on the island!
