Located with good direct beach access in the heart of the increasingly popular beach resort on the north coast of the island, Grand Baie, the Veranda Grand Baie has as its neighbour Beachcomber’s larger Le Mauricia resort. Shoppers will revel in the fact that the shops and bars are a short 5-10 minute walk away from the hotel and even closer, next door, is the fabulous Grand Baie Marina! Amidst this active environment, the Veranda Grand Baie stands as a comforting haven where giant palm trees and flourishing exotic flowers provide shade to afternoon walks and a sandy beach offers the ideal spot for catching a tan. The authentic Creole architecture and traditional rattan cane furniture is mixed with bright and clean contemporary décor touches to create a pleasing ambience which is a huge advance on the somewhat rundown pre-refurbishment hotel.

Veranda Grand Baie is a low rise property, with 94 rooms and apartments, all decorated with clean, fresh and bright colours to create a lovely island-style ambience. They are certainly a massive improvement on the old rooms with the far more modern look and feel they now boast. Each room has either a view of the beautiful tropical gardens or a pool view with 4 room categories on offer: the entry level are the 36 Comfort Rooms (32 m²) and the 8 Comfort Apartments (36 m²) which feature an additional small kitchenette area; then there are the 42 Standard Rooms (35 m²) before you get to the 6 far more spacious Deluxe Rooms (55 m²) or 2 Family Deluxe Rooms (65 m²) Obviously you shouldn’t expect 5 Star type luxury here – although you will get the basics like air-con, TV’s, mini-bars and tea/coffee making facilities - but at this price level the rooms at the Veranda Grand Baie serve up a decent amount of style for your money!

There are 2 restaurants to choose from at the Veranda Grand Baie – the main restaurant is the Mon Plasir which serves up extensive buffets or plated set menu dinners on alternating nights. Then for a more intimate and romantic experience you can head to Belle Vue, where you can dine whilst enjoying splendid views over the flickering lights of Grand Baie. During the day there’s no better place to chill out having a chat with fellow guests over an ice-cold Phoenix or traditional rum-based cocktail than at Le Tilambic, the bar located next to the pool. With the lively bars and nightclubs of Grande Baie close by, guests can always choose to wander out of resort for the evening, but the entertainment at the hotel is also plenty of fun! You can simply sit back and enjoy music from local musicians and DJ's or join in the fun of the traditional Sega dancing!

If you choose to stay in Grand Baie the reality is that you don’t have access to the best beaches on the island and the Veranda is no exception – the sandy beach here is perfectly acceptable if a little small at about 100 metres in length, but the reality is that you seldom encounter the crystal-clear water that you find at less developed spots on the island. And if you’re looking for peace, quiet and secluded tranquillity then this is definitely not the right location for you! (and this applies equally to basically all the Grand Baie resorts) Whilst by Mauritian standards it’s quite a small resort, there is still plenty to keep you occupied at the Veranda Grand Baie - the Aquagym and Fitness Room are there for you to take advantage of whilst beach volleyball, boules, darts, table tennis and tennis volley are also available. Some water sports activities are also included such as windsurfing, kayaks, pedal boats, snorkelling and sailing dinghies – note however that unlike more expensive resorts, water-skiing is an extra cost activity here, along with things like deep sea fishing, scuba diving and catamaran trips. Kids will no doubt be happy too as the Timomo & Friends Kid’s Club will provide them with loads of fun indoor and outdoor activities to keep them occupied. And whilst they’re busy having loads of fun, why not take a break yourself and head off for a spoiling treatment or massage at the resort’s Seven Colours Wellness Spa.
