What's Hot

  • Stunning location in the shadow of Le Morne Brabant mountain - this has to be one of the most beautiful spots on the entire island!
  • Fore! Golfers flock to the lovely 18 hole golf course on the resort which boasts some gorgeous holes strung out along the shores of the peninsula
  • You're spoilt for choice when it comes to dining - there are 8 restaurants between Paradis and sister resort Dinarobin which guests can enjoy
  • Paradis is a real hub of activity! Home to the largest sport centre on the island
  • Golfing widows can head for some serious pampering at the Spa (the even nicer Spa at Dinarobin is also available)

What's Not

  • This is a large property and quite spread out - however golf carts are available to whisk you around if you don't feel up to walking in the tropical air
  • Take note there is no full All Inclusive option here (a drinks-with-meals option is available during the winter months)
  • Retail junkies would be better off staying closer to the hubs of Grand Baie or Port Louis as Paradis is quite isolated on the south-western tip of the island

It’s not often that a resort is as stunning in reality as the idyllic brochure pics make it out to be, but the Paradis is one of those rare gems! This stunning resort is situated in the south-west of Mauritius on perhaps the prettiest stretch of the entire island - on a peninsula that lies between the crystal waters of the coral protected lagoon and the spectacular Le Morne mountain. It shares this awe-inducing mountain backdrop with its sister resort neighbour, the even more upmarket Dinarobin, which means that guests also have access to the restaurants of that excellent resort. With 286 luxurious rooms and another 13 stunning villas, the Paradis is a very large and spread out resort (taking a golf cart from the main resort buildings to the furthest flung rooms can be a real Godsend in the heat of summer!) and, in fact, guests looking for a more compact and intimate resort are probably better advised to look elsewhere. However, if the size is not an issue, then there’s definitely plenty on offer here to keep most people more than happy!

Half the accommodation is arranged in large arcs amidst the tropical gardens and is consistently excellent - the entry level rooms are the 40 Deluxe Rooms (50 m²) – then there are 60 slightly more expensive Ocean Rooms (beachfront) of the same size, and many guests choose to pay the little extra for the better position. If you want more space then you’re better advised to look at one of the 174 Tropical Rooms (76 m²) which have a spacious lounge area where you can relax in comfort (of these Tropical Rooms 54 enjoy a beachfront position) Then there are 4 Ocean Suites (Beachfront) of 94 m² as well as 8 very spacious Senior Suites (Beachfront) of 147 m² which have prime beachfront positions and include your own exclusive thatch beach umbrella.

The Tropical Rooms are able to accommodate 2 adults and 2 children, but for larger families the resort is able to provide Family Suites consisting of 2 interleading Tropical Rooms. But if money isn’t an issue, then families will love staying in one of the 12 gorgeous ParadisVillas (275 m²) set on a gorgeous stretch of private beach a little away from the main resort facilities towards Dinarobin - you get your own private golf car to get around the resort not to mention a valet who is available for cleaning, chores and basic food preparation. A chef service is available for evening meals for a nominal cost should guests prefer to “eat in” and enjoy restaurant dining the following night. Add in the excellent kid’s club and the little ones will be certain of enjoying a fantastic beach holiday!

In terms of activities, the Paradis boasts 2 real trump cards: the stunning beach and a cracking golf course. The beach here is quite simply one of the best on the entire island, with miles of white sand fringing crystal clear water protected by the fringing coral reef. So whether your preference is to simply chill out whilst picking up some rays on the beach or to get stuck into some of the free watersports on offer (including waterskiing, windsurfing, snorkelling and kayaking) you’re likely to be very happy! Tennis courts and the well equipped gym will no doubt draw some enthusiasts, but the main attraction here for many guests has to be the excellent 18 hole Paradis golf course – it hugs the shoreline of the peninsula and makes for a memorable experience in one of the most spectacular locations of any golf course in the world. The course is also cleverly designed to test the lower handicap golfer without completely intimidating and demoralising the weaker player (although I can personally confess to have plonked more than my fair share of balls into the ocean that lines many of its fairways!) Keen golfers will be even happier that Paradis has negotiated that guests are also able to play 3 other excellent courses nearby at discounted green fees – the Heritage Golf Club (20 minutes drive south), the Avalon as well as Tamarina Golf Estate (20 minutes north) – so there’s plenty of variety to keep you interested. And golf widows needn’t despair either, as whilst hubby is busy cursing his way around the course you can retreat to the excellent Spa for some pampering Me Time (an even more impressive Spa facility at Dinarobin is also open for you to use)

The sharing of Dinarobin’s facilities comes similarly in handy as far as dining is concerned - there are a choice of 4 restaurants at Paradis plus another 4 next door at Dinarobin which means you can eat at a different restaurant every night with a variety of themes and menus. Perhaps the biggest disappointment for South African guests particularly is that the Paradis doesn’t offer an All Inclusive option, so guests should be prepared for the typically high Mauritian drinks prices and make allowance for this in your budget (a drinks-with-meals package is offered during the winter months). The main restaurant at Paradis is the Brabant which overlooks the main swimming pool and specializes in buffets; if you’re a fan of Italian cuisine then the classy La Palma will be a magnet, but if, like us, you can’t get enough of the island’s delicious fresh seafood, then head instead to the Blue Marlin where the waves literally lap against the restaurant’s stone walls. Or for a wonderfully romantic evening, why not take a little boat to Le Ravanne restaurant on the beach between Paradis and Dinarobin where you can enjoy delicious Creole dishes under the stars with your toes in the sand! At night Paradis always offers a live band or show which makes a great end to the evening.

Ultimately the atmosphere at Paradis is chilled and relaxed, not too quiet and not too noisy, classy without being intimidating or stuffy. To sum up, we recommend the Paradis as a superb upmarket resort option for anyone looking for a relaxing yet luxurious stay in a truly amazing location!
