What's Hot

  • Really great place for a diverse family holiday with its teen's club, kid's club, golf course nearby as well as a Spa and lovely beach - there's something for everyone here!
  • The new C Beach Club - a very cool and funky new addition which the kid's will love
  • Four very diverse dining options here - including the unique Seven Colour Energy Restaurant at the spa, where you will receive a meal that will "stimulate your chakra"!
  • Spacious entry level rooms will accommodate two adults as well as up to two children under 12

What's Not

  • The African décor theme, whilst very subtle, may not appeal to some South Africans as it may be a bit too close too home and they want some more "island style"
  • Very much a family orientated atmosphere so couples and honeymooners looking for a more tranquil resort may prefer sister resort Heritage Le Telfair next door
Heritage Awali

Heritage Awaliit ticks all the usual boxes required of top Mauritian resorts – a turquoise blue lagoon and lovely sandy beaches, great Spa, luxurious accommodation, wide range of dining options, an innovative kid’s club and even access to an excellent 18 hole golf

The Heritage Awali in the south of the island. It boasts a large range of facilities to cater for all tastes as well as one of the largest spas on the island – but a further bonus is that guests here also have access to the facilities of their sister resort next door, the Heritage Le Telfair. The unique-for-Mauritius subtle African flavour of the resort probably makes less of an impression on our South African based clients than the average visitor from Europe, but it’s no less attractive for all that and certainly a lot more attractive and tastefully realised than some of the clichéd tropical island pastiches presented by other resorts – it goes beyond just the earthy décor touches and African pot too; on your arrival for example you may be welcomed by the sound of djembe drums!

The 160 rooms – made up of 154 Deluxe, 5 Suites and 1 Villa - are beautiful and a very good size. Most guests will stay in the Deluxe Rooms (all 52 m²) which can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 children under 12 or 3 adults. Perhaps the best choice of these are the Beach Front Deluxe rooms as they have direct access to the beach - although in saying that if you are looking for complete privacy bear in mind that there will be people walking past your room fairly regularly. The other Deluxe rooms are set back in the grounds of the hotel and form blocks either looking over one of the pools, the ocean or the lovely gardens. The rooms themselves are very impressive with large bathrooms, luxurious exotic wood furniture and a restful earthy colour palette. The larger Suites (100 m²) are located on the edge of the beach and boast the addition of a dining room, living-room and a Jacuzzi in the bathroom – whilst the suites are really designed more for a family wanting a little more space, obviously a couple wanting to spoil themselves will also enjoy the greater space on offer and their prime beachfront location.

Whilst the resort’s location is wonderfully tranquil as well as scenically stunning, there are plenty of facilities and activities on offer to keep everyone in the family happy – Dad will no doubt love the excellent 18 hole “Golf du Château” golf course crafted by well known South African course designer Peter Matkovitch; Mom will likely gravitate towards the gorgeous Seven Colours Spa, one of the largest on the island where personalized pampering treatments are worked out depending on your individual energy chakras (!) ; the youngsters will certainly enjoy the Timomo and Friends kid’s mini-club where they’ll be kept busy with anything from making their own musical instruments to hunting crabs on the beach at sunset; even your permanently sulky teenager might perk up at the daily program for teenagers including such varied activities as being introduced to golf, karaoke and fun camp fires on the beach with sega music and dancing! Otherwise you could simply stretch out on the long golden beach and soak up the aquamarine waters that lap at these shores or choose from the arm’s length long list of complimentary land and watersports that includes sailing, windsurfing or waterskiing or head for one of the resort's four swimming pools.

You can also head to the newest innovation here – the new C Beach Club shared with sister resort the Heritage Telfair which has something designed to appeal to all ages including a couple of casual but chic restaurants and bars, the Cabana boathouse and the Cool teens club complete with a bunch of high tech goodies like Wii game consoles to keep them amused.

Everyone in the family is also likely to be happy with the range of restaurants and bars on offer at the Heritage Awali - the Balafon is the main restaurant which serves buffet breakfasts and dinners, but for something a bit more exclusive the beach restaurant Infinity Blue offers Mediterranean and seafood cuisine and has stunning views over the lagoon. As a special treat why not book a romantic dinner at Le Château de Bel Ombre, a 19th century manor whose old world charm and views make it particularly memorable and where the authentic Mauritian menu looks utterly delicious. But if you’re in the mood for something really different, head over to the Seven Colours Spa Energy Restaurant – fill in a little questionnaire beforehand so that the restaurant can work out your ‘colour’ and your menu is designed accordingly to stimulate your chakra! It has to be a bit of fun if nothing else! At sunset head over to the Blue Drift Bar where in the relaxed atmosphere you can dip your toes in the sand whilst enjoying a cocktail. Another option is the Zenzi-Bar, a lounge bar placed amongst the interlaced pools and enjoying a lovely view over the lagoon. In the evening, local bands and DJ’s entertain the guests and create a party atmosphere sure to ignite the dancer in you – so start practicing that sega now!
