What's Hot

  • A gorgeous east coast beach with a long stretch of fine white sand and waters of a turquoise hue
  • Not 1 but 2 championship golf courses!
  • We love the thatch roofs and simplistic island decor that makes you really feel like you are in Mauritius!
  • Complementary luxury facilities at the spa include Sauna, plunge pool, steam bath, 2 whirlpools. Tai Chi lessons and yoga as well as aqua aerobics are also complementary!

What's Not

  • Although the sound of having a room a leap away from the pool may be ideal, you may want to reconsider if you are wanting peace and quiet
  • Honeymooners are advised to look into spending the extra on one of the exceptional villas here... or to look to a smaller, quieter hotel for privacy

As the name suggests, the resort and villas of the Constance Belle Mare Plage are located on Belle Mare beach, one of the most amazing long wide stretches of sandy beach to be found on the island and great for sun worshippers & water sports enthusiasts alike. The long crescent of white sand here is protected by an offshore coral reef and the waters are calm and warm, making it ideal for swimming, snorkelling and indulging in the various watersports on offer, particularly sailing.

Many of the hotel's 236 rooms are set in two storey houses boasting pretty thatched roofs which are spread around the resort’s 15 hectares of lush tropical gardens, each with its own private balcony or terrace looking onto the gardens or beach and tastefully furnished in warm colours. They have every facility including air-conditioning, television, minibar and separate sitting area and large en-suite bathrooms. The Prestige Rooms (45 m²) offer excellent value for money and if you are looking to enjoy the benefits of a 5 star hotel without paying a 5 star price, then these lovely modern rooms will be more than sufficient. They are situated in the older part of the hotel around the main pool and all are sea facing. The rooms come on various levels in a couple of different hotel blocks. The only disadvantage to some of the rooms is the proximity to the pool and if you are looking for a bit of peace and quiet then it would perhaps be a better idea to take one of the Junior Suites instead.

The Junior Suites (68 m²) differ from the Prestige rooms in that they are larger rooms located away from the Prestige rooms in the newer part of the hotel. They include a large terrace or balcony and a sofa bed and dining area. The bathrooms also have a walk-in dressing room and double vanities. Some are situated on the beach front and others slightly further back. When they say that they are sea facing this doesn’t always guarantee a ‘sea view’. This just means that you face the sea and ocean views could be obscured. Their situation is the advantage more so than the size as they are situated in a quieter area of the hotel around another pool.

But it’s the 18 Villas that will take your breath away as they are truly amazing! Perfect for families and couples looking for complete privacy, they offer separate check-in facilities, a personal butler, in-house meals if required and a completely private pool and lounging area. The ground floor lounge is complete with TV/DVD/CD player, Play Station, Wii and WIFI so perfect for children or people wanting this to be a home away from home. Whilst the villas provide complete privacy, guests are still able to enjoy all of the facilities and services of the resort. Honeymooners will particularly love the private pool area and the personalised dining.

One of the highlights of the Belle Mare Plage is the fantastic choice of restaurants and the social atmosphere that the hotel provides and with 7 restaurants and 6 bars to choose from you’re unlikely to ever get bored! Citronnelle is the main restaurant which serves buffet breakfasts and dinners. It is overlooking the beach and the pool and offers a relaxed atmosphere with live-cooking. The other restaurants provide a wide range of choice for lunches during the day and alternative dinners in the evenings. The restaurants range from casual beachside restaurants such as Indigo Beach and La Kaze to fine dining restaurants like the Blue Penny Cafe and La Spiaggia serving 'haute cuisine' in elegant surroundings.

The 6 bars are scattered around the resort and with the exception of the main Cocktail Bar are attached to the various restaurants. The main Cocktail Bar is situated in the main building with an indoor area and an outdoor wooden deck. There is also a dance floor and live entertainment every night. Please note that when you eat outside of the main restaurant, unless specified, you are provided with a ‘credit’ towards the meal you are eating. The menus clearly indicate what items would be at an additional cost. You will also need to pre book the a la carte restaurants during your stay.

One of the strengths of Belle Mare Plage is the number of activities that you can enjoy at the resort as it boasts superb sporting facilities. Pride of place must go to the two championship 18 hole golf courses – the Links and Legend – which are rated as arguably the best on the island. Then there are the 5 swimming pools, floodlit tennis courts and profusion of watersports including water skiing, windsurfing, laser sailing and snorkelling. For the less active, the Shiseido spa at the resort offers a wide variety of relaxing beauty and body treatments. Belle Mare Plage is also very well set up for families with lots of facilities, including a children's club, the Constance Kids Club, which welcomes children between the ages of 4 and 12 years.

It all adds up to a formidable and well earned reputation as one of the island’s best all round resorts! It may not necessarily be to the liking of all couples or honeymooners who may want something smaller and more quiet and in this case we would perhaps suggest staying instead at the Belle Mare Plage’s sister hotel, Le Prince Maurice. It does, however, tick all the boxes for most holidaymakers who are after a lovely beach, luxurious accommodation, loads of activities, a pampering spa and 5 star food and service!
